The Farr Academy Summer School offers a seamless experience for current students who rely on the consistency and continuity of program philosophy and systems to avoid regression and to continue academic, social, and emotional growth. The Summer School also provides a meaningful transition for students entering in the fall.

The Summer School continues the focus on learning and emotional growth while weaving in recreational activities, and opportunities for employment and experiences within the Career Explorations Curriculum as well as onsite visits:

  • Recreation through field trips such as swimming, canoeing, kayaking, ice-skating, bowling, minigolf, museum exploration, and special events is built into the summer experience.
  • Employment opportunities are available through jobs and on-site and off-site internships. Students participating in an internship or paid employment are guided, counseled, supervised and advised  by Farr staff who serve as a liaison between the school and internship or job site.
  • Career Exploration Curriculum: The career exploration curriculum focuses on Education, Training and Skills needed for employment in various fields. Students are provided the opportunity to explore various career paths through classroom materials and field trips to job sites, sometimes using a thematic approach. Students have participated in visits to area colleges, Schools of Cosmetology or Carpentry, and to Google, iRobot, Cambridge Police and Forensics, Cambridge Fire Department, Channel 5,  and the MSPCA. Courses have been offered in CPR and First Aid for certification. Exploring factories such as Cape Cod Potato Chips, Harbor Sweets, and Taza Chocolate have provided an extra special treat along with an opportunity to learn employment requirements.
